Do You Know These Five Types of Hot-Melt Adhesive?

Choosing the right hot-melt adhesive for every use is critically important. The adhesive you need to accomplish a specific task can vary widely, so it’s important to know what adhesives are best suited for your application.

Evans Adhesive is proud to offer five different types of packaging hot melt adhesive in addition to our water-based adhesives. Here is a quick look at each of our adhesives and how they could work for you.

hot-melt glues

1) EVA (Ethylene Vinyl Acetate)

Our EVA adhesive is ideal for a variety of coated and uncoated paper product applications. EVA is waterproof and offers some heat and cold resistance and sets quickly, firming up between one and ten seconds after application.

2) Polyethylene

These hot melts work well for case, carton and tray sealing applications. Polyethylene adhesives provide excellent thermal stability and are low odor.

3) Metallocene

Like polyethylene, metallocene adhesives are light colored and low odor, providing excellent thermal stability. Metallocene adhesives are also well-suited to case, carton and tray sealing applications.

ReliaSeal 7359 is an excellent example of an effective Evans metallocene adhesive. Its char-free characteristics help users eliminate downtime and repair expenses that are sometimes required due to carbon buildup in adhesive lines.

4) APAO (Amorphous Poly Alpha Olafins)

APAO adhesives are best used where open time and tack are required. These adhesives offer a soft, tacky and flexible texture, making them an excellent choice for product assembly.

5) Polyamides

An adhesive for high temperature and high strength applications, polyamides are resistant to oils and solvents. This makes them an excellent choice for difficult to bond, low energy substrates.
